Le Monde Diplomatique ("The Diplomatic World"), also known as LMD, is a monthly newspaper offering in-depth reporting and analysis of world issues and events.
LMD began publication in 1954, started by the staff of the major French daily newspaper Le Monde. While its original purpose was to keep diplomats up-to-date on world events, it soon acquired an international reputation for its in-depth articles and analysis of world events.
In 1996, the newspaper formed its own company, becoming semi-independent of Le Monde, although the daily still owns 51% of LMD. Today, Le Monde Diplomatique is published in 20 languages and claims a readership of one million people worldwide.
This newspaper is owned by Groupe Le Monde.
