WPVD AM 1290 in Providence, Rhode Island is a low-power public radio station rebroadcasting the signal of WNPN FM 89.3, the flagship station of The Public's Radio (formerly called Rhode Island Public Radio).
The station's history dates back to 1947 when WNAF first went on the air. It changed call letters and owners many times through the years, becoming public radio station WRNI in 1998 under the ownership of Boston University, which operates WBUR FM.
In 2007, Rhode Island Public Radio bought the station from Boston University, although it continued to retransmit WBUR programming. On October 8, 2011, the station stopped airing English-language programming and replaced it with Latino Public Radio, which leased air time from Rhode Island Public Radio. Spanish-language programming continued until April 1, 2018.
This radio station is owned by The Public's Radio.
