The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, sometimes called the Dem Gaz or the DG, is the largest newspaper in the state of Arkansas. It claims to reach 62 percent of adults in the four-county Little Rock metropolitan area (Faulkner, Lonoke, Pulaski and Saline counties) each week. In March 2018, the newspaper began the process of switching from print to digital distribution by giving away 36,400 Apple iPads to customers at a cost of $12 million. In March 2020, print publication was reduced to just once a week on Sunday. The Democrat-Gazette is still a daily newspaper, but 6 of the 7 days are digital print replicas rather than physical newspapers.
A northwest edition of the paper called the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette is published in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The Democrat-Gazette was first published in 1819 as the Arkansas Gazette, founded by William E. Woodruff. It is the oldest continuously published newspaper west of the Mississippi River. Current owner Wehco Media is a privately owned company that operates daily and weekly newspapers, magazines and cable television companies in four states. Wehco, pronounced Way-Co, is an acronym for Walter E. Hussman Company. Hussman is the company's chairman.

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Replaces Papers with iPads

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Executive Editor Griffin Smith Resigns

According to publisher Walter Hussman, online subscription sales amount to about $200,000 a year.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette no longer has a book editor, after Karen Martin left the position the newspaper integrated the position into the features department.
