Founded in 1892, The Colorado Daily covered news at the University of Colorado at Boulder along with the city of Boulder and surrounding communities. The Colorado Daily was a free newspaper printed in compact format, available at many venues and street stands around Boulder. It described itself as "an edition of the Daily Camera," referring to the Boulder Daily Camera which is the leading newspaper in the city of Boulder.
The Colorado Daily was CU's student newspaper until 1971, when it went independent after an editorial angered the school's Board of Regents. In September 2005, owner Randy Miller sold the paper to the E. W. Scripps company. In August 2009, Denver based MediaNews Group, owner of the Denver Post and Boulder Daily Camera, bought the newspaper. MediaNews Group was bought by Alden Global Capital in 2010 and became part of its newspaper publishing business then called Digital First Media. The company name was later changed to MediaNews Group.
The Colorado Daily published its final issue September 17, 2022. The cost of doing business has risen since recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and the Colorado Daily was no longer profitable.
This newspaper was owned by MediaNews Group, Inc.
