Hurriyet Daily News

Hurriyet Daily News is a newspaper in Istanbul, Turkey covering local news, sports, business, politics and community events.

Hurriyet Daily News is the English-language edition of the popular Turkish newspaper Hurriyet (Turkish for "Liberty"). It is published by Turkish media company Demirören Group and is distributed across the country. Hurriyet Daily News competed with the English language edition of now-defunct Turkish daily newspaper Zaman, which was called Today's Zaman. On March 4, 2016, the government of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan took control of Zaman publisher Feza Publications and shut the newspapers down.

The Hurriyet newspapers were owned by the Dogan Media Group subsidiary of Dogen Holding until March 2018, when Demirören Group bought the company. Dogan was the leading print media company in Turkey and owner Aydin Dogan opposed the efforts of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Justice and Development Party (AKP) to reduce freedoms in Turkey.

The Demirören Group is a Turkish conglomerate privately owned by the Demirören family, which Media Ownership Monitor has reported to have close ties with President Erdogan.

This newspaper is owned by Demirören Group.

The website is presented in the English language.
