Based in Boise, The Idaho Statesman is a leading source of news coverage in the state of Idaho with print circulation in Ada and Canyon counties. It began publication in the summer of 1864 as the Tri-Weekly Statesman, in a log hut built on what is now the site of Boise's city hall.
The newspaper became a daily in 1888 under the ownership of Judge Milton Kelly. The same year, the Statesman was sold to Calvin Cobb, whose family operated it for more than 70 years. Knight Ridder acquired The Idaho Statesman from Gannett Company in August 2005 and in 2006, McClatchy acquired the paper with its purchase of Knight Ridder.

-- The newspaper company, recently emerged from bankruptcy, fired Idaho Statesman Editor Christina Lords after she tweeted her frustration about trying to get Microsoft Excel for a new reporter. McClatchy said she violated its social media policy.
