Cherokee County News-Advocate

The Cherokee County News-Advocate was a newspaper in Baxter Springs, Kansas, USA covering local news, sports, business, politics and community events.

In March 2021, the Cherokee County News-Advocate ended publication after it was purchased by the owners of the Columbus News-Report and merged into that newspaper. The News-Advocate's final issue was dated March 17, 2021.

The Cherokee County News-Advocate was formed from the 2010 merger of the Baxter Springs News and the Columbus Advocate. Larry and Sharon Hiatt founded the Baxter Springs News in 1998 after the Baxter Springs Citizen went out of business. After the Baxter Springs News merged with the Columbus Advocate, the Hiatts began publishing the Columbus News-Report.

The News-Advocate was owned by now-defunct American Consolidated Media (ACM) until 2014 when the business was sold to GateHouse Media. On November 19, 2019, the paper became part of Gannett Company when the owner of GateHouse Media bought Gannett and merged it with GateHouse under the Gannett name.

This newspaper was owned by Larry and Sharon Hiatt.
