The Marblehead Reporter covers local news and events in Marblehead and the surrounding communities of Essex County in the northeastern corner of Massachusetts. It was part of the now-defunct North Shore Weeklies Inc. based in Ipswich, Massachusetts. NSW was a newspaper publisher on Massachusetts' North Shore and one of the original subsidiaries of Community Newspaper Company (CNC), which became the largest weekly newspaper publisher in Massachusetts.

CNC was sold to now-defunct Herald Media, owner of the Boston Herald, in 2001. In 2006, the business was acquired by GateHouse Media

On November 19, 2019, the newspaper became part of Gannett Company when the owner of GateHouse Media bought Gannett and merged the two companies under the Gannett name.
