Huntsville is the county seat of Walker County, Texas. The city is home to Sam Houston State University, Huntsville State Park, the HEARTS Veterans Museum of Texas, and the Texas Prison Museum. Huntsville is the headquarters of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the site of several prisons operated by the department. The Huntsville Unit, one of the TDCJ units, contains the execution chamber of the state of Texas.
