WTOG does not have a news department. For two years beginning in early 2020, it aired a 10pm local newscast produced by sister station WFOR TV 4 in Miami. Before then, it had not aired local news since 1998.
The station was launched on November 4, 1968 without a network affiliation. It was an affiliate of Fox and UPN before becoming a charter affiliate of The CW television network when The CW debuted on September 18, 2006. That affiliation ended after Nexstar Media Group became the majority owner of The CW on October 3, 2022.
