Slate is a USA website covering National News.
Slate is a website offering analysis and commentary about politics, news and culture. The site was created in 1996 by Michael Kinsley, who had been the editor of The New Republic.
Slate was initially owned by Microsoft Corporation as part of MSN. The Washington Post Company bought Slate on December 21, 2004. In October 2013, the Washington Post newspaper group was sold to Amazon's Jeff Bezos and Slate is now part of Graham Holdings Company.
Slate is supported by advertising and subscriptions today. In March 1998, it began charging a $19.95 annual subscription fee, but this business model was unsuccessful and the site returned to free, ad-supported access in February 1999. In March 2020, Slate again introduced a metered paywall and subscription fee.
