Newsweek is a USA magazine covering National News.
Newsweek Magazine was founded by Thomas J.C. Martyn, a former foreign editor at Time Magazine, and first published on February 17, 1933. The Washington Post Company bought Newsweek in 1961. In August 2010, the Washington Post Company sold the magazine to Dr. Sidney Harman, an audio equipment entrepreneur, for the reputed price of one dollar along with an agreement to absorb Newsweek's large financial liabilities. On February 1, 2011, Newsweek magazine and The Daily Beast merged, becoming The Newsweek Daily Beast Company LLC. On July 23, 2012, InterActiveCorp, which shared a 50/50 ownership interest in the company with the Harman family, acquired a controlling interest.
In October 2012, the company announced that Newsweek would stop publishing in print at the end of 2012, having lost a long-standing competition with Time Magazine. With the switch to online-only publishing, the name was changed to Newsweek Global at the beginning of 2013.
In August 2013, Newsweek Global was purchased by IBT Media, the publisher of the International Business Times. IBT acquired the Newsweek brand and website but not the Daily Beast. In 2014, IBT brought back the print edition of Newsweek. The company changed its name to Newsweek Media Group in April 2017. On September 14, 2018 the magazine was spun off as a separate business and the remaining services reverted to the IBT Media name.
This magazine is owned by Newsweek Media Group.
