The Onion

The Onion is a USA website covering Comedy and Parody.

As "America's Finest News Source," The Onion spoofs news reporting on real issues involving politics, sports, world affairs, entertainment, business and more. It was published in print until December 2013, when it went online-only.

Launched in 1988 in Madison, Wisconsin, The Onion moved to New York City in 2001 and is currently based in Chicago.

In January 2016, Spanish-language broadcaster Univision Communications bought a 40% interest in Onion Inc. for what was reported to be under $200 million. The deal also gave Univision the right to purchase the remainder of the business.

On April 8, 2019, private equity company Great Hill Partners bought The Onion from Univision Communications. The transaction included all of the Gizmodo Media Group, the operator of online services Gizmodo, Jalopnik, Jezebel, Deadspin and others. Great Hill formed a new company named G/O Media Inc. to run the businesses.

On April 25, 2024, G/O Media sold The Onion to Global Tetrahedron, a new business led by Twilio co-founder Jeff Lawson. Former NBC News reporter Ben Collins was named the CEO of the company.

It is one of the best American media outlets, according to Mondo Times members.

This website is owned by Global Tetrahedron.
