-- Roessner assumes responsibility for all editorial content and initiatives at Hearst Corporation’s four dailies in the state -- the Connecticut Post, Danbury News-Times, Stamford Advocate and Greenwich Time -- as well as seven weekly newspapers in Fairfield County.

Mark E. Aldam, president, Hearst Newspapers, announced Roessner's appointment on July 23, 2012.

“We are thrilled to have such a seasoned media executive and award-winning journalist like Barbara join the Hearst Newspapers team,” Aldam said. “She has an impressive track record of upgrading the quality of enterprise reporting -- she will be a great leader for our papers in Connecticut.”

Roessner previously worked as a strategic communications consultant. Prior to that, she served as managing editor of the Hartford Courant from 2006 to 2009. She started out at the Courant in 1978 as a beat reporter.

Her appointment as executive editor takes effect August 1.
