Sacramento Bee Bets on Digital

-- On June 8, 2018, Sacramento Bee editor Lauren Gustus wrote about her plan to save the newspaper. And that plan is all digital:

"We could fully fund our newsrooms – from salaries and benefits to notepads and pens – if we had 60,000 people supporting us through digital subscriptions. Roughly 15,000 do so today, so we'd need to earn the support of about 45,000 more."

Gustus noted that there are over 30 million visits per month to the sacbee.com website. And she said the paper is now tracking its subscription numbers in real-time in the newsroom.
