-- At the end of 2020, both daily newspapers in Salt Lake City - the Deseret News and the Salt Lake Tribune - will stop printing daily newspapers and switch to weekly print editions.

The Deseret News wrote "Early next year, the newspaper will transition from daily print delivery to two new printed offerings — a reimagined weekly newspaper retaining the Deseret News moniker and a new monthly news magazine called Deseret. The Church News will continue in weekly print. Digital delivery will continue uninterrupted."

The News noted that its digital readers have dwarfed print readers for years and most print readers have become "digital first." It said 70% of digital users are from outside Utah.

On October 26, 2020, the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News announced the end of their decades-long Joint Operating Agreement as of the end of 2020. Under the agreement the two papers jointly managed Utah Media Group which handled printing, distribution and advertising. Utah Media Group President Brent Low said "Demand for a printed newspaper is a fraction of what it was historically, while digital content and distribution is everywhere, and our clients can get their papers printed in a cost-effective way without owning their own presses." He said he had met with the company's 161 employees to announce the coming end of the printing company, detailing severance packages.
