Sorry, There's No More Knewz

-- The news aggregation service from News Corporation, Knewz was shut down on July 9, 2021 after 17 months in operation. With a silly name and a copycat plan, Knewz was not a very good idea to start with and in the end failed to turn a profit for the company.

A service designed to displace other news aggregators such as Google News and Drudge Report, Knewz stuggled in part because it favored stories from other media outlets owned by News Corporation (the New York Post and the U.S. version of The Sun) along with other tabloid newspapers featuring lurid headlines. It didn't help that its visual design was an expressway to a migraine.

All that remains of Knewz is a "Thank you" page with this message:

"We started Knewz as an experiment in news aggregation because we wanted to gather a diverse range of quality journalism, to highlight all sides of every story and to protect and project provenance. We certainly had provenance, but not profits, and so we bid Knewz farewell. Thank you to the millions of Knewz users who saw the value of the service and supported our mission."
